Privacy Policy

Effective September 13, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how CARTA: Map Art Studio (“CARTA”, “we”, or “the app”) handles information when you use the Android application. We designed CARTA to work without an account or a CARTA cloud service.

Information you choose to provide

• Places and map searches. When you search for a place or use “my location”, the app sends the query or coordinates to public map services so it can find and draw the requested area.
• Artwork and files. Designs, imported GPX tracks, poster text, colours and export files are kept on your device unless you choose to share or save them elsewhere.
• Device location. CARTA requests coarse or fine location only after you choose the location shortcut. Location is used to create the selected map and is not stored in a CARTA account.

Services that process requests

CARTA uses OpenStreetMap data and public Nominatim, Overpass, Terrarium elevation and OSRM routing services. Those services receive the network request needed for the feature you use, including the place query, map area or route points. Please review their own policies for details. OpenStreetMap data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and is licensed under the ODbL.

Advertising

Free versions of CARTA may show a banner on the Home screen, an interstitial after several saved exports, and a rewarded video to unlock the largest export sizes for the current session. Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) may process device identifiers, approximate location, diagnostics and advertising interactions to serve, measure and prevent abuse of ads. Where required, Google’s consent dialog lets you choose how ads are used. You can remove every ad with the optional one-time “Remove ads” purchase.

Purchases

The “Remove ads” product is sold and fulfilled by Google Play. Google processes payment details, purchase authentication and refunds. CARTA receives the purchase result needed to grant the entitlement and stores a small local flag so the ad-free state can work offline. CARTA does not receive or store your card number.

Storage, retention and deletion

Saved designs, map captures, preferences and the ad-free entitlement are stored locally on your device. You can delete designs from the Library, clear offline map data in Settings, or uninstall CARTA to remove its local data. Network providers and Google may retain request, advertising or purchase records under their own policies.

Children

CARTA is a general-audience creative tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security and changes

We use the platform’s secure network transport and keep no CARTA account database. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We may update this policy when the app’s data practices change; the effective date above will be updated with a material revision.
